FEU’s Garcia faces freezer
Tigresses halt Lady Tams’ streak

Far Eastern University’s second-round woes in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament continue with ace guard RR Garcia facing possible suspension.
Garcia, the league MVP in 2010, picked up his second unsportsmanlike foul this season—which could merit an automatic one-game suspension—in the Tamaraws’ second straight loss over the weekend.
The league automatically suspends a player who incurs two unsportsmanlike fouls, unless technical officials downgrade the infraction or grant a school’s appeal.
UAAP basketball commissioner Chito Loyzaga is expected to make an official announcement today.
Meanwhile, Ronnie Dizer, University of the Philippines’ representative to the UAAP board, confirmed yesterday the resignation of head coach Ricky Dandan.
New coach Rey Madrid, who already joined the Maroons’ practice on Sunday along with assistants Poch Juinio and Ramil Cruz, hopes to arrest the State U’s winless run starting on Wednesday against University of the East.
Dizer said Dandan will still be part of the school’s sports program as its science and technical consultant.
The Tamaraws, who still hold the top spot with a 7-2 record, will face the surging Warriors on Sunday at Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s going to be hard if we lose RR. If that happens, somebody has to step up,” said FEU coach Nash Racela whose Tamaraws are trying to regain the fine form that carried them to a seven-game sweep of the first round.
Garcia was called for an unsportsmanlike foul for throwing an elbow on La Salle’s Oda Tampus in the third period of the game the Tamaraws lost, 66-75, last Sunday.
In the first round, Garcia was also assessed an unsportsmanlike foul for throwing the ball at University of the East’s Lordy Casajeros in the game won by the Tamaraws, 89-78.
Tough luck also hit the Lady Tamaraws as the defending champions absorbed their first loss in the women’s basketball tournament.
University of Santo Tomas (5-4) stunned the Lady Tamaraws (8-1) in a 61-58 decision over the weekend that snapped FEU’s remarkable 26-game winning streak since 2011.
Maica Cortes (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Marian Mejia (11 and 13) paced the Tigresses with Lore Rivera nailing the two charities with 12.2 seconds left to clinch the win.

Kitakits!

UE coach likes 'hottest team' tag, but warns of tough road ahead

AFTER a slow start, the University of the East Warriors are finally looking like the team many thought they would be during the preseason.
“I always tell them to be patient with us,” said UE coach David Zamar, days after a come-from-behind 68-67 win over title contender University of Santo Tomas extended the Warriors' win run to four games.
The Red Warriors are the hottest team in the UAAP at the moment, with a 5-3 win-loss record after starting the season with three losses in their first four games.
The team, in fact, is close to doubling its win total in all of last season.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila, for us, it’s an overachievement,” said Zamar. “When I took over, we had a 3-11 total (win-loss record). Sa first round, naging 4-3 and now we are on a four-game winning streak.
“I like the term ‘hottest team’ but we’ll take it from here,” he added.
Zamar, however, said the road is bound to get tougher as the Warriors target a Top 2 finish - and the twice-to-beat advantage that goes with it in the semifinal round.
As things stand now, UE and National University are just two games behind league leader Far Eastern University, which slumped to its second straight loss after completing a seven-game sweep of the first round.
Zamar's troops can further bridge the gap with a win over the Tamaraws on Saturday, but he insisted the race to the Final Four is still too close to call.
“Nakita naman natin na anybody’s game talaga kaya ang importante, nasa leaders kami. Yes, we are considered contenders pero lahat na rin kasi contenders,” said Zamar.
"In the second round, whoever makes the fewer mistakes wins it. As much as possible, dumikit lang kami sa leaders (okay na)," he added.

Good luck sa game bukas. Sana manalo ulit. Wala si Rr Garcia, suspended. Wag lang sana ma-foul trouble si Mammie early on the game and magwork ang defense ng UE sa outside snipers nila.

This game is one for the books! Yung miscue sa inboundpass nagpatalo sa atin!
Kainis! Panalo na natalo pa!
Pwede nang bigyan ng award si Romeo! Best actor!

Kudos to Noble for stepping up in this game. Sa wakas!
What's with Javier shooting those threes?

1st loss pa lang natin this second round, so we still have a chance para sa 2nd seed. Pero importante nasa top 4 tayu. Dikit dikit standings so marami pa pwedeng mangyari. Kelangan lang natin siguruhin ung mga laban against AdU at UP dahil sila ung may off game talaga .

Re: UAAP Season 76
Nananakawa tuloy tayo.

Re: UAAP Season 76
UE gained respect from the people after that game. And FEU scored 8 POINTS in 17 or something seconds? Anything is possible.
But still, kudos to the Warriors.

Source: UE duo Mammie, Casajeros hit with two-game bans for 'attack' on Romeo
UNIVERSITY of the East stars Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros are set to be meted with two-game suspensions by the UAAP Commissioner's Office with two important games coming up for the Red Warriors.
According to league sources, Commissioner Chito Loyzaga decided to ban Mammie and Casajeros following a video review of separate incidents involving Far Eastern University star Terrence Romeo during Sunday's match which the Tamaraws won in double overtime, 98-94.
Mammie was suspended for a second time by the league for a play that saw Romeo land on his foot while taking a three-point shot early in the fourth quarter, aggravating an ankle injury he sustained in practice.
It will be the second suspension slapped on the 6-7 UE center, who was hit with a one-game ban for "confronting, pushing, and kicking” Adamson’s Roider Cabrera in a scuffle that occurred after the Red Warriors lost to the Falcons, 71-78, last July 11.
(For full story, see UE's Mammie hit with one-game ban for attack on Falcon Cabrera)
Casajeros, who was given a warning during that same game against Adamson for a skirmish with Cabrera, was banned after he was caught on video throwing a closed fist at Romeo, the source added.
The suspensions on the UE duo are just two of several sanctions and warnings Loyzaga is set announce tomorrow, the source said.
The ban on Mammie and Casajeros also comes at a bad time for the Warriors as they are scheduled to take on title contenders National University on Saturday and De La Salle on September 4.
Mammie is the league’s leading rebounder this season with his 18.6 average for the Warriors, including a season-high 27 against the Tamaraws last Sunday.
Mammie had already been penalized with a one-game suspension by the league in the first round.
For his part, Casajeros is averaging 6.4 points per game and is regarded as the top defensive stopper of the team.

Hindi pwede to! At ngayon pati Commissioner!
Ano ba UE Management magbubulagbulagan na lamang ba kayo?!!!!
