Re: 2014-2015 UE Red Warriors Off Season Updates
that makes it official
whatever happened behind closed doors does not change the fact that he played his heart out every time he was out there wearing the red and white.
Salamat Mr. Sumang for donning the warrior jersey -- wished we could have won a championship.
Big heart - king warrior, goodluck in the pros

Yes. I second the motion.
It was 4 yrs of excitement with him at the helm.
We will going to miss those ankle-breakers and clutch-baskets.
We could have been in the final 4 if not for those dubious calls by the refs and the suspicious suspensions of that commisioner.
Thank you!

May substance issue? Not in the m0od to believe that, pakita nya ang ebidensya. Sabi ni Manong mag pro daw at obvious naman na ganun ang trend sa ue kapag bago palagi coach, umaalis ang star player. Anyway, may balita ba sa mga fil am na papasok?

Amidst the issues and the controversies,
We would still like to thank you for giving your all for the UE Community!
We will certainly miss those dazzling ankle-breakers, those killer cross-overs, those clutch three-pointers, and those charming sideburns...
We could have been in the final four, or even in the finals if not for those what-ifs and what-could-have-beens..
But one thing is for sure, you will always be remembered as a true red-blooded warrior!
Thank you Super Sumang!

MAMMIE, ARAFAT FOLLOW SUMANG’S EXIT FROM UE

The University of the East Red Warriors will look entirely different when the UAAP 78 Basketball Tournament begins in September.
Only six players remain from the rotation coach Derrick Pumaren used last year. In Season 77, 11 Red Warriors averaged at least 11 minutes per contest.
Pumaren confirmed in a previous interview that star guard Roi Sumang has decided to forgo his final playing year with the intention to enter the PBA Draft.
Just days after, Pumaren again confirmed to ABS-CBN that Charles Mammie, Moustapha Arafat, and Gino Jumao-as have also left the team.
The UE mentor said that Mammie is no longer eligible as he has already gone beyond the UAAP rule stating that players are only allowed to play within seven years after their high school graduation. ABS-CBN Sports is still confirming with Pumaren on the exact year Mammie finished secondary school.
Pumaren then explained that Arafat was cut by team management after participating in a commercial league in Marikina. The UAAP disallows its athletes from taking part in commercial leagues unless it is for their school. The sanction would have been sitting out for a year, but Pumaren said they decided to let Arafat go to avoid any complications.
Finally, the Red Warriors coach said that Jumao-as was asked to leave the team because he has an “attitude problem.” Pumaren declined any further comment on Jumao-as.
That makes Sumang, Mammie, Arafat, Jumao-as, and last season’s graduating team captain Bong Galanza no longer with the team. Sumang, Galanza, and Mammie were the team’s top scorers a year ago.
The good news is that Pumaren has already secured commitments from top high school stars Fran Yu and Shannon Gagante to replenish his roster. The prospects from Chiang Kai Shek will be expected to step up right away.
Veterans Chris Javier and Dan Alberto and promising sophomore Paul Varilla will now be relied upon to lead UE.

Notable Recruits:
Jayson Varilla
Shannon Gagante
Bertrand Awana
Serville Poblete
Fran Yu
Doods Pillas
Open slots:
5 - Mammie, Arafat, Galanza, Sumang, Jumao-as
Kailangan lang magdemote ni Coach ng isa pang player para maccommodate lahat ng mga bago.
Sa tingin ko eto na ang mga shoo-in sa lineup:
Fran Yu, Doods Pillas, and Bertrand Awana.

How about Lloyd Fabian Castor? Any info na kasama ba sya sa lineup, either team A or B? Been seeing this guy in UE and heard that he's in the team. Not sure tho kung kasama pa sya sa current team by Pumarens.

Ang lupet talaga manggapang ng players ng La Salle.
Akalain mo yun, nagcommit na sa NU si Mark Dyke nasulot pa nile.
Tsk.
Kailangan talaga itago recruits natin, baka kinabukasan nasa DLSU na.

And the build-up continues...
Iloilo’s Larupay to play for UE
April 10, 2015
By ADRIAN STEWART CO
MANILA – The University of the East Red Warriors continued its buildup for the UAAP Season 78 men’s senior basketball after securing the services of Lambunao, Iloilo-native Omar Larupay.
Red Warriors head coach Frederick Pumaren said he was impressed by the talent of the 6-foot-2 CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knight forward during the latter’s first day of training with the school on Wednesday.
“We like him because of his stamina, physical prowess and high-leaping ability,” Pumaren said of Larupay, who was discovered and developed by Silver Knights team manager Mark Palabrica.
Larupay will also be the second Ilonggo in the Red Warriors lineup after sophomore guard Edgar Louie Charcos, who was recruited by Pumaren from Sun Yat Sen High School-Iloilo last year.
The 17-year-old Larupay is expected to play a big role for the rebuilding Red Warriors following the departure of several star cagers, including big men Charles Mammie and Moustapha Arafat.
Mammie has already gone beyond the UAAP rule stating that players are only allowed to play within seven years after their high school graduation, while Arafat was booted out from the team for participating in a commercial league in Marikina City.
Larupay was the third blue-chip recruit of the Red Warriors this off-season after previously securing the commitment of Chiang Kai Shek College prospects Fran Yu and Shannon Gagate./PN
