Re: UAAP Season 76
The Final Score
UE’s Boysie Zamar momentarily transfers pressure to Ateneo’s Bo Perasol
By MICO HALILIJuly 19, 2013 7:30am
As soon as you enter Boysie Zamar’s office, you’ll notice a framed set of newspaper clippings on the wall. In big, red, bold capital letters, the heading declares, “UE BEATS ATENEO IN UAAP 75!” There are 12 articles immortalized in glass, arranged randomly. Different headlines encapsulate the same moment:
Red Warriors surprise Eagles. Shocker. UE nakasilat pa. Painting it red. Eagles tiklop sa Warriors. Big bird down.
The Louvre has the Mona Lisa. Zamar’s office has this.
“I keep telling my players that Ateneo won their five-peat because they think like champions and play like champions,” Zamar said. “To become champions, you have to think and play like you deserve a championship. To become champions, you have to beat the champions.”
Zamar admits that Ateneo will always be a special opponent. As a player, he lost to Ateneo in the 1987 UAAP Finals. UE was up by twenty and lost. As a coach, he lost to Ateneo in the 2002 UAAP Final Four. UE had a twice-to-beat advantage and lost. Gec Chia haunts his dreams still.
So when Zamar’s Red Warriors beat Bo Perasol’s Blue Eagles last July 17 in the first pseudo-must-win game of several truly-must-win-games for both teams, it mattered in many ways. UE jumped to 2-3. Ateneo slid to 1-4. Even for just a moment, Zamar and his players could celebrate. It was a confidence-builder. Even for just one crucial game against Ateneo, Zamar looked at the scoreboard and smiled at the result.
For UAAP coaches, the pressure to win is like holding a live hand grenade. Please hold it. Don’t drop it. It’s a maddening set-up. Coaches on the collegiate level are expected to win with whatever roster they have. Patience, in some cases, is an anomaly. Process, in some instances, is an afterthought. One has to wonder why coaches seek these one-miss-you-die challenges. Then again, one should also admire coaches for being insane enough to seek such thrills.
That live hand grenade, for the time being, doesn’t bother Zamar as much as it bothers Perasol. Perasol probably feels he’s cradling two hand grenades now instead of just one. It’s the burden of the five-peat. Some fans become irrational with just one championship. Imagine multiplying that irrationality by five.
Perspective no longer matters. Empathy becomes a ridiculous concept. What? We went from five straight to one and four? Unacceptable. Fandom is both hall-of-fame douchebaggery and unbridled passion. In a sense, to behave as a fan, there is no right or wrong. A supporter behaves very differently. A fan, on the other hand, is free to quickly turn disappointment into vitriol. It might be against good sense. But it’s not against any law.
“Why would I be afraid of failure and criticism? That’s going to be a reality of life,” Perasol calmly said, as he was about to take over as Ateneo Head Coach. “If I’m going to have that opportunity, the right management, the right support. I think I have what it takes to lead Ateneo.” - AMD, GMA News

Re: UAAP Season 76
Mammie improved, with more attention given to him by Coach Bai Cristobal. He now dominates the paint with controlled temper.
Olayon shot fierce 3's during the practice game. Baka gamitin ito bukas. And your favorites Sumido and Noble still struggled in getting a field goal with their shots.
Casajeros? He's amazing. Ang sipag magpraktis. Lahat ng possible shots minamaster, with the help of Paul Lee.
Javier improved a bit, bumalik na ata ang kumpyansa. Mahusay na makakuha ng rebounds and attacks the rim with ease.
Dan Alberto. Malaki talaga inimproved nito. He's mastering his shots beyond the arc.
Olivarez: nahawa na nga ata kay Sumido. Pero madalas uma-assist sa bigs.
Santos: ball easily slips from his hands when rebounding.
Pujante, Gallanza, and company: madalas napupunahan ang depensa at atensyon nla sa bola. They need to practice defense and box-outs.
They need to improve their outside shots talaga. No problem inside naman. Good ball rotation.
I think they will have a chance against DLSU. They just need to be consistent in their plays.
Good news din: CONFIRMED Renz Palma will play next season.
Nuod din kayo Sports Unlimited, nag-shoot sila kanina.

Re: UAAP Season 76
Great effort by the team particularly Sumang and Mammie!
What guts by Sumang!
Ill pardon Javier for falling in love with the three!
Turnovers almost cost us the game!
At as usual!
Nagyabang kasi kaagad sina Teng at T. Torres eh ayan tuloy. Tsk.
Wag magcelebrate kaagad until the fat lady sings.
Congrats Warriors!

Re: UAAP Season 76
UE needs a 3rd CONSISTENT guy. 1st is Sumang, 2nd is Mammie. Kaso walang gusto magstep up e. Olivarez and Jumao-as inconsistent maglaro. Sayang. Magkaron lang yan, UE will be a legitimate threat in the finals.
Turn-overs, poor perimeter defense will kill us. And oh, we need also a consistent sniper aside from Sumang. Sumido keeps giving us airballs na e.

Mammie also improved in his FT's. He made crucial ones. He's an absolute monster in the paint. The only way to beat Mammie is by tiring him. Against the 5 teams that UE faced, N. Torres did the best defending Mammie one on one.

Re: UAAP Season 76
GO UE!!

Re: UAAP Season 76

^Chief, magsasabay ba next year si Palma at Arafat?

Isang 7'1 at 2 6'10!

The Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles may have been struggling in this year's UAAP Season with an unusual 2-4 win-loss record. I said unusual because they're the defending champs and they're one of those teams who played really well in the Pre Season Tournaments i.e. in the Fr. Martin Cup 2013 and in the FilOil Flying V Hanes Pre Season Cup 2013. There have been some growing pains in the hearts of the thousands of Blue Eagle Fans due to the losses that their favorite team suffered early this Season. But I'm sure that the Blue Eagles won't be in the same predicament in the succeeding years because of their new recruits. For the first time in the history of the Ateneo Blue Eagles Basketball Program, they will be having African players. Take a look at the picture below. From left to right: Gueye (7 ft 1 in), Ikeh (6 ft 10 in) and Ewenike (6 ft 10 in). They are the Ateneo Blue Eagles' towering African recruits for the succeeding seasons of the UAAP! - See more at: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
