New UE coach wants ‘import’

New University of the East coach Joe Silva has started to hit the ground running for the Red Warriors and he could earn the biggest
piece of a future championship puzzle sooner than later. Silva, 37, himself disclosed to Tempo-Bulletin yesterday that they are making
an aggressive push to acquire the services of Diliman College’s Senegalese big man Adama Diakhite, considered by many as one of the
most dominant foreign players outside of the UAAP and NCAA circle.
The 6-foot-9 Diakhite, who just turned 21 last month, already attended a pair of UE practices since the former Ateneo Blue Eaglets
tactician, a two-time UAAP juniors champion mentor, started to preside the training sessions last Tuesday.
“We liked what we saw,” said Silva. “Adama has always wanted to play in the UAAP. Feeling niya talented enough siya to play in the league.
Siyempre, kahit sino naming coach, player and even foreign player, gusto sa higher level of competitions talaga.” The imminent arrival of
Diakhite already has the blessing of returning Red Warriors bankroller Bong Tan, who will try to sustain his success after helping the Batangas
City-Tanduay Athletics rule the inaugural Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League conference last month.
“Ang gusto ni Boss Bong, hindi siya papasok sa UE ulit kung magiging talunan lang. He’s a true winner,” said Silva, adding Tan
is expected to sit down with Diakhite and his representatives once he returns home from the United States next week. Silva added
that Tan “actually told us to find an American player para at least marunong na. Talagang gusto ni Boss Bong na maibalik ‘yung
winning tradition ng UE.” The Red Warriors last hoisted the UAAP crown back in 1985.
If things fall according to plan, Diakhite could serve as UE’s first foreign player in UAAP Season 82 since Africans Charles Mammie and Moustapha
Arafat played under veteran Derrick Pumaren back in UAAP Season 77. For now, Silva will have to bring out the best from top gun Alvin Pasaol,
guards Philip Manalang and Christopher Conner, and big men Nick Abanto, Rey Mark Acuno and Will Bartolome ahead of the UAAP Season 81 starting
in September.

Re: UAAP Season 81: New Beginnings!
Si Tanedo lang nakuha.
And may bagong 6'6 na bruiser from Cehu. May Boffa pa tayo na 6'7.
I already asked Coach Lawrence na baka pwede i-tap pa si Arafat this year habang nagreresidency pa yung Alex.

I don't believe in those "commitments" anymore because the recruits nowadays care more about how much they'll gain before they can even produce a damn point for the school. Lipservice. No disrespect to those who committed now and before. What I'm just saying is, we have to get them enrolled ASAP, so that even if they choose to do a Deandre Jordan on us, or a Mario Bonleon, or the most recent, a Mark Nonoy stunt on us, at least they'll feel a sting before they leave.

But to put some positivity on this thread, I am happy that now, we are seeing higher caliber recruits planning on joining the fray.

Re: UAAP Season 81: New Beginnings!
Pasaol, Manalang, Varilla, Maloles, Gallardo, Strait, Bartolome, Conner, Cullar

when will he be eligible? According to tiebreaker, may 2years eligibility sya sa Lyceum. If ever, how will it affect his playing years for us kung nagenrol sya sa Lyceum just last March?

Hua Siong caging center joins UE Junior Warriors

AFTER Mark Nonoy and Jean Raven Beliran’s commitment to University of Santo Tomas, another player from Hua Siong College of Iloilo was set to transfer to Manila.
The 6-foot-4 center Jesse Sullano will be moving to University of the East Junior Warriors for the upcoming UAAP Season, Hua Siong head coach Vincent Conlu told Panay News.
“Jesse (Sullano) will be playing for the UE Juniors basketball team next season,” Conlu said. “We chose UE because sila ang unang nag-offer kay Jesse to play in Manila, and I know he will fit there.”
The Santa Barbara, Iloilo native will formalize his move after representing Western Visayas in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, said Conlu.
Sullano said the opportunity makes him ecstatic.
He promised to do his best to help the team avoid another disastrous UAAP basketball finish.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa tiwalang ibinigay nila sa akin,” Sullano said. “Ang maipapangako ko lang ay I will give my best para makatulong sa team and also improve my game.”
Sullano will join fellow Western Visayas-based players in Juniors Warriors squad – Shane Dichoso (Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental), Joshua Lopez (Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental), John Almacen (La Carlota City, Negros Occidental), Jared Tajonera (Bacolod City), and Darvin Policarpio (Ibajay, Aklan)./PN
