Congratulations to the UE Women’s Basketball Team for winning the 2016 Fr. Martin's Cup!

The Ai Lebornio-mentored Lady Warriors edged the Adamson Lady Falcons, 74-70, in the Finals held at the San Beda College Manila Gymnasium yesterday.

The team managed to win the tournament even without our leading scorer last UAAP Season, CJ Ano-os, who is now with the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Again, congratulations UE Lady Warriors!

Go Fight Red and White!

What do you mean may napasama ng loob? may nainis kasi may bagong recruit?

mukang nakita ko yang dalawang yan. Though mukang si Conner yung isa kasi 6'2 sya.

If ever kukuha sana tayo ng import yung ala Mammie sana hehe.

Red Warriors sink Pirates with big 2nd half run
By Paul Lintag on May 11, 2016 05:52 PM

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
The Red Warriors dropped 62 points on Lyceum in the second half alone.

UE's high-octane offense and suffocating defense is back to peak working condition after going AWOL in the Warriors' previous outing in the 2016 FilOil Flying V preseason premier cup.

The Warriors turned a close game into a blowout after dropping 62 points in the second half on their way to a 91-75 win over the Lyceum Pirates at the San Juan Arena Wednesday.

Up 62-60 early in the fourth quarter, the Red Warriors went on an 18-9 run to establish an 80-69 lead that they managed to the end.

UE's trademark press led to a number of easy scoring opportunities as the Warriors cracked 90 points for the second time in three games so far.

"The second half was an all-out effort," head coach Derrick Pumaren said. "That is what we missed in the first half and when we played La Salle."

Lyceum was actually in control in the first half, taking advantage of UE's poor shooting to take a 34-29 lead.

But the Red Warriors flipped the switch in the second half, dropping 31 points in the third quarter to tale the lead and another 31 in the fourth to complete the blowout.

Alvin Pasaol scored 17 points to lead the now 2-1 Red Warriors while Nick Abanto added 13.

Joseph Gabayni had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds for Lyceum.

Perhaps the most telling stat in UE's pullaway victory was the turnover story.

In the second half alone, the Red Warriors forced 19 turnovers while only committing four.

The Pirates went on to have 31 giveaways for the game.

Boxscore:

UE (91): Pasaol 17, Abanto 13, Batiller 9, Palma 9, Derige 9, Manalang 8, Varilla 6, De Leon 6, Armenion 4, Penuela 4, Charcos 2, Acuno 2, Bartolome 2.

LPU (75): Gabayni 20, Ayaay 14, Zamora 8, Baltazar 8, Malabanan 8, Alban 7, Soliman 6, Bulawan 2, Caduyac 1, Allanes 1.

Quarterscores: 18-19, 29-34, 60-56, 91-75.

Treasure in Island: UE recruits Guam’s IIAA MVP

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

University of the East has long been trying to construct a team that would help them redeem their lost glory in UAAP basketball, and despite falling short to earn an elusive final four seat for several seasons, the Red Warriors has been truly devoted in adding valuable pieces that would fit their unique collection of role players – the latest on the list is Guam’s high school MVP Christopher Conner.
Chris, as he was known, was a half-Filipino who led John F. Kennedy Islanders in it’s back-to-back title at Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam (IIAAG) boy’s basketball tournament.
The 6-foot tall ‘all-arounder’, who plays any position, was also the 2016 MVP and a member of the All-Island team selection.
A scout from UE, who was able to watch the finals, did not hesitate to talk to Conner’s father after Chris’ offensive abilities shone in the match.
“It all happened so fast,” Conner told Robert Balajadia of The Guam Daily. “After the game they pulled my dad to the side and told him about the scholarship. My dad knows that it was a big school so we immediately committed to them.”
Conner already signed a letter that contains his intention to play for UE, according to reports, and the Derrick Pumaren-led All-Filipino Warriors will see his arrival sooner.
UE has been bringing in Pinoy young guns in their system fresh from other country, this includes Paul Varilla, who was deemed as a precious recruit to the Red Warriors according to their former team manager and late Jesus Tanchangco.
Meanwhile, Local recruits has been also keeping UE’s title hopes alive such as Renz Palma and sophomore Edson Batiller.
Lastly, if the Red Warriors could manage to become more familiar and hardworking with their system, given enough time to build rapport upon the arrival of Conner, they could slowly but surely slide to their comfort level as a team and shut the woes for another upsetting finish.

Pasaol takes charge as UE beats La Salle to force rubber match for Milcu Got Skills finals slot

ALVIN Pasaol took over in the third quarter as University of the East pulled away with a win over La Salle, 93-75, on Thursday to force a rubber match for a finals berth in the
Milcu Got Skills Summer Showcase 25-under division at the Enderun Colleges Gym.

With their opponents having a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals, Pasaol scored 11 of his 25 points in a third-quarter run that put the Red Warriors in control, 58-50, before
the team began the fourth with a 9-2 run for a 77-66 lead. UE also finished the game with 12 straight points to pull off the lopsided win.

La Salle, fresh from its Filoil title victory over the weekend, played the semifinals match without Ben Mbala, Jeron Teng, and Abu Tratter—a reason why UE coach Derrick Pumaren
played down the win.

“We still have to play them tomorrow. Maybe they will show up with their full bench tomorrow. But I like these games. It is helping us a lot,” Pumaren said.

Pasaol totaled five triples in the game, while Ralph Penuela added 16 points for the Red Warriors.

Larry Muyang and Andrew Langston led La Salle with 12 points each.

UE and La Salle face off again on Friday for the right to meet St. Clare College in the championship game on Saturday.

The scores:

UE (93)—Pasaol 25, Penuela 16, Armenion 13, De Leon 7, Bartolome 7, Manalang 6, Batiller 6, Cruz 3, Abanto 3, Larupay 2, Cagate 2, Varilla 2, Canner 1, Acuno 0, Olayon 0, Charcos 0.

DLSU (75)—Muyang 12, Langston 12, P. Rivero 11, R. Rivero 8, Melecio 7, Dyke 7, Socka 5, Pascual 5, Perkins 4, Paraiso 2, Yongco 1, Gob 1, Joson 0.

Quarters: 21-22, 43-48, 68-64, 93-75.

Alvin Pasaol has makings of becoming star for UE in new UAAP season, says former coach

From: Reuben Terrado

A FORMER coach of Alvin Pasaol sees his former player back when he was still in Davao, that he'll excel in Manila now that he will be wearing the colors of
University of the East.

Isaias Gravador, coach of Pasaol when he was playing for Goldstar in Davao, said the 21-year-old has what it takes to be a great player in Manila because
of his attitude.

“Si Alvin, to sum it all up, is all heart,” said Gravador in an online interview with SPIN.ph.

Before moving to Manila to play for UE, Pasaol suited up for Holy Cross of Davao College and Goldstar Davao, one of the known teams in the city. He is now
eligible to play for the Red Warriors after taking residency.

Pasaol has drawn attention recently due to his respectable play in offseason tournaments for UE, being one of the top scorers of the Red Warriors in their preseason
games. On Thursday, Pasaol led the Red Warriors to a win over La Salle in the Milcu Got Skills preseason tournament by scoring 25 points.

Gravador attested that the 6-foot-3 Pasaol will be a big boost for UE come the UAAP, adding his scoring won’t be the only thing that he can give to the Red Warriors.

“It seems that he is everywhere on the court. Even if he doesn’t get the rebound, but you can see him there trying to get the rebound even if he is against taller and
heftier players.

Gravador said Pasaol’s attitude on the court will be the biggest reason for him to succeed in the Manila collegiate wars.

“I think this is the reason why he will succeed there. You cannot teach will. His heart is just simply immeasurable. What he lacks in skills, he compensates it with his
all-out style of play. Skills can be acquired anyway but what he has right now are some of the things that you cannot teach in basketball,” said Gravador.

Post by syadaker Fri Jun 17, 2016 8:44 pm

From Joescoundrel of Gameface:

My notes on the three UAAP teams that saw action at the Fil Oil opening day:

UE -

1. Fast, athletic team, knows how to execute the Pumaren press, has the right personnel to do it. Dami natin nawalang bola sa press, at marami din sa steals as the quick UE perimeter held fast on the passing lanes.

2. Renz Palma may have emerged already as a legit UE star, might be better than Bon Batiller now that the Pumarens are letting everybody play fast, which is how Palma plays best. Buti na lang wala pa din pukol at walang pull-up, otherwise he'd be better than Ed Daquioag.

3. Alvin Pasaol seems to be the Roger Pogoy of UE, a stocky 6-foot guy without a position, just knows how to play.

4. UE will surprise a few teams in the coming season with their press, their speed, and their ability to shoot the long bomb.

We'll surprise teams if mabawasan natin ang turnovers natin.

At syempre, yung free-throws!!!!!

Possible line-up:

1 - charcos, manalang, andrei
2 - palma, batiller, penuela, pasaol
3 - varilla, abanto, poblete
4 - derige, abanto, gagate

Mga kasing-tangkad daw to ni Varilla, so around 6'3-64.

Malamang forward..

Got an info that Serveille Poblete won't be playing anymore due to insufficient papers and has flown back to US.

Looks like Omar Larupay will be fielded in. Kasama sya sa Guam.

Last year na pala ni Varilla this year..
