nah. we are just asking too much from a rookie/transferee albeit a good one at that because wala tayong ibang option (inconsistency from the others). pag bumaba laro niya matik hirap tayo walang ibang sumasalo ng scoring. looking at the box score De Leon 0pts Abanto 0pts these two especially De leon have to be consitent every single game , we were also 2/15 from 3 and all in all 30% shooting hirap talaga tayo manalo kung ganyan ang statline.

May matino namang tayo program with the pumarens. We gotta endure these growing pains in the longrun we will be good because of this

Sayang yung games sa Women's.

46-45 panalo UP.

We had every opportunity to capture win the game.

Sayang. The Lady Warriors are eliminated.

Another sayang game vs FEU, we lost by 4, we missed 10-12 free throws, missed point-blank shots and has been outrebounded.

And as always, tayo ang biktima ng non-calls at bad calls.

That leaves 2 slots available for next year.

3-4 slots need natin next season. 2 pa need natin iopen, Penuela I guess and/or Gagate need natin ibaba.

Shooter si Penuela kaya lang mukang magiging Sumido ver 2.0 to.

UE Taekwondo News:

We almost swept the Taekwondo Tournament natsambahan lang tayo ng UST Men's. Sayang!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

UE Volleyball News:

Mga players natin as usual maliliit.

At kahit sa Vball may kakupalan na nangyayari. Kakagigil mga linesmen! Kitang kita na IN sasabihin OUT at Pag OUT sasabihin IN pabor sa NU.

Kakagigil!!!!!!

UE’s Chris Javier dreams overtime for his college career
by rick olivares

Time is a precious commodity.

More so when your college basketball career is winding down.

There are five games left in Chris Javier’s five-year career with the University of the East Red Warriors. Unless his squad makes the Final Four that is all he has left.

If he could turn back the hands of time, Javier would. This is the first real season where he has gotten serious playing time with serious productivity. During his sophomore year, his star looked to shoot up. He hit back-to-back game winners — first against UP and then against five-peat seeking Ateneo. That campaign, Chris averaged 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds, an increase from his rookie numbers of 4.6 points and 4.6 rebounds an outing.

Of those game-winning shots, each of those passes came from teammate Roi Sumang, his former foe turned teammate.

Sumang was a star for the Letran Squires along with Kevin Alas, Glenn Khobuntin, and Jarelan Tampus while Javier played behind Alfonso Gotladera in San Beda where he counted Baser Amer, Van Abatayo, and Francis Abarcar as teammates. At UE, they were lost souls.

They lost heavily in those early years in UE more than they ever did in their high school careers. It didn’t help that there was a revolving door of coaches — both played for three head coaches in UE -- Jerry Codinera, Boycie Zamar, and Derek Pumaren. “The hardest part was adjusting to a different system almost every year,” explained the 6’5” center.

After one win, Sumang blurted out, “We have forgotten what winning is like. We are just so sick and tired of losing that I want to enjoy this moment."

It wasn’t just that UE was overmatched against some teams; they also suffered from chemistry issues. Javier admitted that he didn’t adjust well to playing alongside former center Charles Mammie. “I played off-position at power forward. Looking back, maybe I wasn’t mature enough to handle it,” he reflected. “I have to admit that Charles was a big part of our team. He gave us a chance to win."

Those Red Warriors began making serious noises about barging into the Final Four with a now veteran crew whose biggest problem was big game experience. The Red Warriors won a bunch of pre and post-season tournaments but faltered in the UAAP.

Growing up in San Pedro, Laguna, Javier learned the game of basketball by default. He was more oft than not the tallest kid. “I didn’t know about the three-second violation. The only thing I knew was I had to put my hands up to try and block a shot.” He soon learned the game from relatives and began watching the PBA where he rooted for the mid-1990s Ginebra teams that featured Marlou Aquino, Noli Locsin, Vince Hizon, Bal David, and Pido Jarencio among others.

There was a choice between playing for De La Salle Zobel and San Beda but he opted for the latter. “I didn’t know anything about San Beda, its tradition of winning, nothing. I was just a kid whose world was in Laguna,” Chris admitted. He helped in maintaining the Red Cubs’ legacy and when it was time to go to college, he was supposed to go to La Salle with Gotladera after being recruited by then head coach Dindo Pumaren. However, Bedan alumni advised to him to play elsewhere because he they felt he would always play in the shadow of his teammate who started every match.

“And it was a chance to play in the UAAP where my father once played.” Chris’ father Randy once played for the Adamson Falcons.

But the Red Warriors were such a roller coaster ride that Javier thought about leaving school. “The losing, the constant changes, the frustration, it gets to you after a while,” he thought of those turbulent days that wasn’t too long ago.

As fate would have it, Dindo and Derrick Pumaren took over two years ago. “I didn’t play for Coach Dindo in La Salle but now I am with him and Coach Derrick in UE,” said Javier. “It was fate. And it turned out to be good for us. This is the first time, I felt that we as a team were more committed defensively. And that goes for me as well."

More than that, “Manong” as the head coach is affectionately called by all his current and past players, has demanded top fitness and conditioning. And the young Red Warriors, with few veterans, has been slugging it out even with a 3-6 record.

The renewed passion finds Javier posting career numbers — 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in six matches. Not the numbers he likes as he feels he can do much more. “The key is to do more to help my team get to the Final Four. Kulang pa kami sa maturity as a team. But we have to try.”

While UST and FEU are pulling away from the pack record-wise, the middle teams are close to one another. The margin for error getting smaller each game. “Our situation isn’t just in our hands. We have to do our part to win all our last remaining games and hope the others drop a few as well. If that’s how it is then we have to go out fighting,” said Javier.

While every player dreams of making it to the pros (and Javier has his dreams too), Javier wishes he had another year with UE. “Coach Manong has stabilized the program. Everyone is excited about what is going on. Of course, we’d love to have a better record but when you think of the turnover of players we’ve had it’s hard. We’ve had chances to win many games this year but the problem has been closing them out. Obviously, we need more maturity as a team. But it is good situation.”

“What would be good though is to make it to the Final Four to make the UE students and alumni happy and have another playing year."

Very slim chance for UE to get that last Final 4 slot.

UE needs to win against Ateneo and UP, and DLSU/UP must lose all their remaining games.

Racela apologizes to UE as Tams fail to 'repay' Warriors
Camille B. Naredo, ABS-CBNnews.com
Posted at 11/15/15 8:03 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) head coach Nash Racela apologized to University of the East (UE) after the Tamaraws' loss spelled the end of the Red Warriors' campaign to make the UAAP Season 78 Final Four.

UE defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 74-69, in the first game of Saturday's double-header, which gave FEU a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals and kept the Red Warriors' hopes of making the Final Four alive.

Just a couple of hours later, however, those chances were dashed when National University (NU) nipped FEU, 70-68. The Bulldogs improved to 7-7, and the Red Warriors, with their 5-8 record, were eliminated from the semis race.

(READ: Bulldogs luck out, secure at least playoff for fourth-seed)

Racela was apologetic at the end of their game.

"The objective before the game was to win it… No. 1, to UE for winning the game against Ateneo and that gave us the (twice-to-beat) incentive," Racela said.

"At the same time, sana, we wanted to repay them by winning this game, so they'll have a chance. So I apologize to them first," he added.

The loss to NU also dropped FEU to the second seed, locking them into a showdown with Ateneo in the Final Four. It was also their second straight loss after bowing to top seeded University of Santo Tomas in their previous game.

"It doesn't matter, as long as you win the next one," Racela said of their two-game losing streak. "'Yun lang naman ang importante, than you bounce back."

"You may lose three, four straight games, but if you win the more important ones, then those are the things that matter," he added.

FEU still has one game left on its schedule, a showdown against De La Salle University on Wednesday. If the Tamaraws beat the Green Archers, the Bulldogs will clinch the fourth and last semifinal spot.

A victory for La Salle, however, will mean that they will play NU in a playoff for the last spot in the Final Four.

Another of season of what-ifs..

But the guys have overachieved this season, I must say.

Experts projected UE to be at the 3-11 slate but we were even in the running for a playoff slot until that FEU loss to NU.

We had much of winnable games but failed to play with urgency, a lesson learned for a rookie-laden team.

Anyway, it's a big season for us next year, not only because the rookies have gained the needed experience, not just because of the influx of big men and the "possible" Arafat comeback..

But also because of the demise of the star and role players of the other teams: UST - Abdul, Ferrer, Daquioag; FEU - Tolomia, Pogoy, Belo, Arong, Tamsi; ADMU - Ravena, Pessumal, Capacio, Gotladera; NU - Alolino, Javillonar, Neypes, Celda.

This is our great opportunity.

The UE Red Warriors just need to play with maturity next season and everything will fall for the Red and White Community...

Just perfect for the 30th year of Lualhati's UAAP Men's Basketball title drought.

Btw, Pasok ang UE Lady Warriors sa Final 4 ng Women's Basketball Team.

Kung mag stepladder to mas malaki chance nila makapasok sa finals, 12-0 ang NU or 14-0 (28-0 since last yr kasi may import at fil-foreigner na twin towers).

Looking into the future.

Paul Varilla and RR De leon should be the leaders of this team next season, they should atleast average 10pts or more each next yr. Clark Derige was a revelation in the 2nd round hoping his game will take another level next year. Emil Palma needs to develop an outside shot -- might be his breakout season next yr if he gets that shot. Edgar Charcos was steady at the point, might need him to score more. Steven Cudal, should be demoted to team B , unless he transforms into a inside presence for us.

Rookies/1st yr players

Bonbon Batiller - started out on fire, cooled down. medyo gigil ang laro, hope his game matures , he will be big for us next year.

Jason Varilla - very intriguing prospect, excited to see how he develops his game.

Philip Manalang and Fran Yu - steady play, experience will only bode well for these 2. our guards will be a problem for everyone in the coming years.

Nick Abanto - hustle, that's his MO - hope he offsets javier's loss in terms of rebounding.

Joshua Gonzales - hustle player din. His slot is not assured tho. (Is Olayon and Guiang still with us?)

Jordan Sta. Ana - Medyo erratic pa maglaro. might need a stint in team B - might be good in the long run.

Ralph Penuela - Send to team B , medyo hilaw pa.

Shannon Gagate - Might stay in A , depends on who we bring in.

The pressing matter would be finding a inside presence to replace Javier, I dunno who we got on the pipeline. Hoping we get some good recruits.

EDIT: "We will have some new guys, big guys coming in,” Pumaren said. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If all falls into place -- we will get into the final 4 next year.

Derrick Pumaren on what future lies for the Warriors: 'I expect a lot from them next year'
From: Reuben Terrado
November 19, 2015, 04:43 pm

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

THE UAAP season has just ended for University of the East but that doesn’t stop the Red Warriors from already looking forward to next year’s campaign.

Coach Derrick Pumaren said several members of the team who suited up for Season 78 will see action in the Fr. Martin Cup next week to begin their earnest

preparation for the next collegiate season. For Pumaren, it’s never too early to prepare for the school’s next UAAP stint as practice immediately begins on Friday.

“We will be joining the Fr. Martin Cup. I think the team will be playing next Saturday. I think half of the team will join to get more exposure,” said the veteran coach.

“We start our season on Friday for next season,” he added.

The Warriors came a victory short of making the Final Four as they finished with a 6-8 win-loss record.

In contrast, reigning champion National University wound up elimination round campaign with an even 7-7 card to clinch the fourth and final berth in the semis.

“I’m not going to wait for May or June to prepare the team. I want the team to be prepared by September next year,” Pumaren said.

The UR mentor said he looks forward of training the team for next year as he believes the Warriors will have a better campaign behind a lengthy preparation, with only

Chris Javier as the lone player not coming back in Season 79 “I’m really excited. I can’t wait to see the team next year after a year of experience. I expect a lot from
them next year. We will have some new guys, big guys coming in,” Pumaren said.

Talo tayo by 3 points sa Ateneo kanina.

But nonetheless hat's off to the Lady Warriors for achieving new heights. First time na makapasok sa Women's Basketball ang UE.

Malaking achievement na yung ginawa nila, they have exceeded expectations.

Congrats UE Lady Warriors!

-----------

Sinaktan daw anak nya,

Grabe is it allowed to pirate a foreign player at this time?
