What can you say about the overall sports program of UE?
Methink UE's Sports Program needs to be overhauled. Our varsity teams (saved for some) have been lurking at the bottom for years now.
Kudos to the UE Junior teams which managed to win the UAAP Juniors General Championship several years ago.
But our sports program has been left in the dust comparing to our Morayta counterpart, let alone our neighbor at Espana.
Year in and year out, our teams have been fighting tooth and nail for the glory of Lualhati only to fail miserably in the UAAP tournament.
Our Juniors and Women's Basketball teams are the cellar-dwellar since time immemorial.
We have been lagging in the recruitment wars. We can't even let our stellar Highschool Warriors stay and play for our college team. Do Sumang(the former girl's volleyball MVP who now plays for CSB), and Michael "the Thunder" Reyes(the many time boy's volleyball mvp, where is he btw?) ring a bell?
I'm shock when I learned that NU is unbeaten for the time being in the UAAP Men's Badminton competition. Nu has definitely beefed-up its sports program I must say. Having their share of the pie of the blue-chips recruits at their backyard.
Since the Sy's acquired NU, you can see the positive changes in so little a time. NU has experienced a 360 degrees turn...a reversal of fate so to speak. NU winning here and there is not new to the UAAP community nowadays.
Time will come that NU will become one of the formidable teams in the UAAP with the backing and resources of the Business magnate Henry Sy.
While UE, one of the more financially stable academic institutions in the country together with the financial backing of Lucio Tan is being beaten black and blue in the sports arena.
UST will be enjoying its sports complex soon. The MOA Arena will be home of the NU Bulldogs soon. Ateneo has the Moro Lorenzo sports complex to boot. La Salle has its Enrique Razon Sports Complex/Tower. JRU has opened its sports complex a few years back. While EAC has its modern sports complex that is at par with the elite's.
And now the New Era University will be proud of having the biggest arena in the world come 2014.
While the UE athletes and students have the decades-old gym 5. Pathetic indeed! Will the UE Sports Complex stay as a blueprint? Will the dream of having a decent sports facility just be an envy to the UE studentry?
UE needs to give attention to its sports program. UE may have had its glory days in the UAAP wars, but now it's just a thing of the past.
The sleeping giant needs to be awaken.
UE must reclaim its lost glory of the yesteryears. Now.
What say you?

Re: What can you say about the overall sports program of UE?
It all boils down to who has the last say.
Reality bites, in sports program, we can't even go head-to-head against FEU.
Gaya ng sabi nyo Icemint, kung ako ay isang tycoon, makikipagsabayan talaga ako kina MVP, Sy et al. just to make suke sure na di tayo mapag-iiwanan.
Ewan ko ba, naturingang may backer tayo with Lucio Tan, pero unlike Sy, di masyadong maramdaman.

I think Lucio Tan is the stereotypical businessman. Business is business. Pag walang direct ROI, walang business.
I even read somewhere that Lucio Tan told Bong Tan to stop supporting basketball teams.

Yup, the legendary Junior Woodpushers natin. Lagi sila champion dati, both male and female teams natin.

Keep posting bro!

UAAP doesn't start and end in Men's Basketball.
I hope we can all be competitive in almost if not all sports in the UAAP.
Someday.

Darn! How pathetic!

Sayang nga eh, UAAP WVT is getting popular as a sports event. Though, with all due respect to Coach Dora, medyo mas may angas ngayon ang UE WVT, pero kulang pa talaga.
Yung MVT naman, lugmok sa 0-14
Ironically, mas okay pa yung performance ng Boys and Girls division ng Volleyball.

And sad to say, yung mga standout ng highschool team natin ay hindi tumutuloy sa College team natin.
Tulad ni Giza Yumang. Ayun nasa CSB na, star player na dun.
Si Michael Reyes, nasaan na kaya sya? Many time High School MVP yun.

Re: What can you say about the overall sports program of UE?

Re: What can you say about the overall sports program of UE?
UNCONFIRMED:
Parang may good news.
Good job UE!
