Re: 2012-2013 Off-Season Updates
Erase, Pacific gain
UAAP teams stood tall as University of the East-Erase Xfoliant and University of Santo Tomas-Pacific Pipes-Gerry’s Grill pulled off similar hard-earned victories over their respective opponents in the 2013 MBL Open basketball championship before a big crowd at the San Andres gym in Malate, Manila.
UE-Erase relied on the heroics of Lordy Casajeros and Charles Mammie to subdue MOB, 99-84, and remain as the only unbeaten team with four straight victories in the eight-team tournament sponsored by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Zucchero Cafe and Sports Bar, Dickies Underwear and KABAKA of Cong. Amado Bagatsing.
The Warriors of coach Boyzie Zamar did not secure the win until Casajeros hit the tie-breaking three-point shot from the deep left corner with 6.5 seconds left and Mammie blocked the game-tying three-point attempt by Erwin Cornejo.
Casajeros himself capped the win by adding two more points as time expired.
Arvie Bringas of MOB tied the score for the last time at 84-all with a split from the free throw line after drawing the fourth foul by Mammie while going for a putback.
Mammie, a muscular 6-7 Cameroonian, bullied his way with 14 points while being defended by Bringas and Jeff Tajonera throughout the highly-physical but well-played contest.
Casajeros added 13 points, seven in the fourth quarter, and JM Noble contributed 12.
Former Talk N Text mainstay Orly Daroya led the Yong Garcia-mentored MOB with 27 points, including 13 in the first quarter alone.
First game
UST-Pacific Pipes (87) -- Ferrer 22, Bautista 17, Teng 14, Vigil 9, Mariano 6, Pe 8, Lo 4, Abdul 3, Hainga 2, Marata 2, Sherif 0, Gabayni 0.
Manila-King’s Bakeshop (78) -- Sanders 20, Navarro 12, Enrile 8, Wade 8, Mangaran 7, Essono 6, Amparo 6, Clemente 5, Labro 3, Almario 2, Barranta 0.

Re: 2012-2013 Off-Season Updates
UE-Erase survives Lyceum
FIVE down, two to go for University of the East-Erase Exfoliant.
UE-Erase survived a last-ditch rally by Lyceum of the Philippines-Uratex to eke out a dramatic 82-77 win and keep its perfect record in the 2013 MBL Open basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.
Handled by former national team coach Boyzie Zamar and supported by Erase Exfoliant owner Louie Gamboa, the Warriors blew a 20-point third quarter lead but recovered in time to subdue the Pirates in the tough, eight-team tournament sponsored by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Zucchero Cafe and Sports Bar, Dickies Underwear and KABAKA of Cong. Amado Bagatsing.
JM Noble scored seven of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, including a clutch three-point shot with the shot clock winding down, as the Warriors bucked foul trouble on Cameroonian recruit Charles Mammie and won a close one for the second time in three days.
Last Feb. 28, UE defeated MOB, 89-84.
Overall, the Warriors have won all their five matches to assure themselves of at least a playoff for the two outright semis berths.
UE, which is competing in the league as part of its preparations for the coming UAAP season, needs only to win over Wang's Ballclub and AMA Computer University to compelte a rare seven-game sweep of the elimination round.
Mammie finished with 13 points despite struggling with foul trouble. JR Sumido also added 13 points, nine of them in the second quarter alone.
Zamora led the Bonnie Tan-mentored Pirates with 17 points, followed by Shane Ko with 15 annd Tirso Lesmoraas with 13.
Tournament format is single-round elimination with the top two teams advancing to the semis outright with twice-to-beat advantages.
The No. 3 team will then meet the No. 6 squad, while the no. 4 team will battle the No. 5 squad in a pair of knockout matches to determine the other two semifinalists
The scores:
UE-Erase (82) -- Noble 15, Mammie 13, Sumido 13, Javier 9, Olivares 9, Santos 8, Casajeros 5, Flores 5, Alberto 3, Hernandez 1. Pujante 1.
Lyceum-Uratex (77) -- Zamora 17, Ko 15, Lesmora 14, Edora 13, Francisco 11, Mendoza 4, Evangelista 2, Azores 0, Lacastesantos 0, Alanes 0, Garcia 0.
Quarterscores: 16-14, 50-33, 64-51, 82-77.

Lemme guess, the two are ateneo (for pingoy) and dlsu (bonleon bitterness)? And ue voted yes to try to hide the irritation? Haha...

Re: 2012-2013 Off-Season Updates
Obviously the hands of Montinola has done its magic..again.
Halos lahat ng rule changes ng UAAP si Montinola ngiinitiate kasi ilangn beses na sila naapektuhan ng kung anu anong issue.
Dati sa Finals pinagawa nilang best of three, kasi that preceeding year natalo sila sa Finals na one game lang dati.(If I am not mistaken)
Pangalawa, yung "Soc Rivera Rule" kaya naintroduce ang 1 year residency pag lilipat ka ng school after high school. on
Ngayon etong "Pingoy Rule"...

hindi siguro kasi bibigyan sya ng lsgh release paper to play for ue, unlike sa feu na talagang iniipit si pingoy.
"Currently, there is a one-year residency which can be waived if the student's original school releases him unconditionally."
since hindi naman talaga sya kailangan ng dlsu, bibigyan talaga ng release si bonleon, anyway nasa kanila naman si caidic eh di sa atin naman si boneleon.
