Yung iba yata naoferan ng ibang school eh... as far as i know, yung si Duncil, nasa JRU na...

Endgame resolve lifts UE past winless CSB
from: Inboundpass.com
from: Inboundpass.com
WITH the star players of both squads failing to get on the court, the University of the East Red Warriors showcased their superior depth on the way to a 74-66 victory over the College of St. Benilde Blazers in the 2011 FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup last May 14 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
UE’s Ken Acibar was dressed, but never got playing time due to back pains, while Carlo Lastimosa was not available for the Blazers.
After being down for most of the encounter, the Warriors rallied to hold the Blazers to just nine points in the fourth quarter while pouring in 21 in a game that UE head coach Jerry Codiñera described as “hard-fought.”
The Red Warrior reserves got off to a scorching 16-5 fourth quarter start, with contributions from five different red shirts, including five markers from rookie point guard Roi Sumang, that put them up 69-62.
Down 70-64 after a Tim McCoy tip-in off a Luis Sinco miss and a split at the line by Lord Casajeros, CSB called for time with 1:38 left, only to have Sumang break up coach Richard del Rosario’s play with a timely steal and easy lay-in, a basket that doomed the NCAA squad to its fifth straight defeat.
Adrian Santos came off the bench to score 20 points in 20 minutes, and pulled down six rebounds. Cebuano rookie BJ Zosa added eight, including two triples, and Sumang flashed glimpses of his pre-injury form, chipping in with seven points, five rebounds and four assists. “We’re still trying to limit his [Sumang's] minutes though,” said Codiñera, who fielded in Sumang for 18 minutes, mostly in the fourth quarter.
CSB built a 51-44 lead in the third quarter behind a 9-2 blast that had Sinco scoring all seven of his points. A triple by Anton Altamirano and a charity by Mark Romero kept the lead at seven again later in that period, 57-50, but a steal by Santos that led to Zosa nailing a buzzer-beating triple killed any momentum the Blazers had going into the fourth.
Jonathan Grey poured in 19 points, while Jan Tan added 16 and nine rebounds.
All in all, the CSB bench contributed just 14 points the entire game, a stark contrast to UE’s second-stringers, who scored 49 while picking up the slack for the starting quintet. “The starters were erratic, as usual,” said Codiñera. “It was really the bench players who gave us a lift.”
UE pulled down 53 rebounds to CSB’s 44, thanks in part to the 14 boards of JM Noble. The Red Warriors also had eight more assists, 19 to 11.
The win was the Warriors’ second in Group B play, giving them a 2-3 record, while CSB remained winless at 0-5. W5
The scores:
UE 74 – Santos 20, Zosa 8, Sumang 7, Zamar 7, Duran 6, Casajeros 5, Sumido 5, Razon 5, Noble 4, Enguio 4, Flores 2, Javier 1, Montelibano 0, Montalvo 0
CSB 66 – Grey 19, Tan 16, Sinco 7, McCoy 7, Romero 6, Altamirano 5, de la Paz 4, Garcia 2, Taha 0, Fikowski 0, Maconocido 0
Quarter scoring: 16-16, 32-33, 53-57, 74-66
-------------------------------------------
I just wanted to take note of this:
"Adrian Santos came off the bench to score 20 points in 20 minutes, and pulled down six rebounds."
sana naman ganyan din ang laro nila sa UAAP, just like the double digit outburst of sumido in his last game...

Re: 2011 FIL -OIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Game observations:
1. Coach Jerry played most of his veteran players. Dito na natin makikita ang possible rotation nya come UAAP. He used 3 bigs at the same time then 2 guards. Unlike sa previous seasons na 3 guards tayo. Mas ok to kasi kulang tayo sa 5 spot.
2. The team needs to improve its transition defense. Ang daming fastbreak points ng CSB. Dahil kulang tayo sa big man, minsan pati yung guards natin nag-aabang ng rebound kaya yung opposing guards nakakatakbo for a fastbreak.
3. Poor perimeter defense tulad nung game against FEU. Ang daming tres ng CSB.
Hirap ang guards to break the fullcourt press.
5. Adrian Santos showed why he was elevated from the Pages to this current roster. Sana pati sa UAAP maging consistent sya. Sa game na to pinakita nya na kaya nyang mag-dive para sa bola, napakasipag nung last game at ang dami nyang hustle-plays. Maging consistent lang talaga sya.
6. Sumido showed glimpses that he can be a good slasher aside from his three-point shooting.
7. Zosa's three-point shooting can be of help to the team.
8. Chris Javier is back and showed that he can be an inside threat in 2-3 years time. And this guy has an excellent passing skill.
9. Kamguia is nowhere to be found.
10. I can't help but notice Ken Acibar during huddles.
11. Parang di pa 100% si Sam Razon. Hirap pa sya tumalon tulad nung dati before nung mainjured sya.
12. Montelibano did play but unproductive. Mabagal kumilos.
13. I think Casajeros needs to play more. He is a very-good wing defender and can score when he find his rhythm. I like his swagger on the court.
Hopefully Sumang and Acibar can fill the void left by Paul Lee.
15. In my opinion, Paul Zamar is better shooting those 3s than doing the PG spot.
16. Kung nahirapan tayo sa CSB, what more against sa teams like Ateneo and FEU.

#13 hidden card up coach's sleeves? panggulat sa UAAP?

God Bless UE!

Red Warriors rally past foul-plagued Letran
by inboundpass
DOWN big, the University of the East Red Warriors forced the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights to become a one-man team. The result was a nail-biter of an 83-78 overtime win in the 2011 FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup last May 18 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
With a large number of his supporting cast in foul trouble or having fouled out, Kevin Alas was forced into 38 shot attempts, some of which included step-back threes in crunch time. Letran scored just 12 points in the overtime and fourth quarter combined compared to the 29 tallied by UE.
Up by four at the beginning of the second half, the mercurial Alas actually played a big role in expanding the Knights’ lead, pouring in 11 of his squad’s last 18 points third quarter points. By contrast, UE only managed 12 in that same timeframe, allowing Letran to enter the fourth quarter up 66 to 54.
Letran’s woes actually began in the fourth as the Warriors began the period with a flurry of points, 11 unanswered, to cut the deficit to a single point, 66-65 with 7:42 left to play. Compounding the Muralla unit’s woes was the frustrating game from its big man, Jam Cortes, who fouled out after trying to guard a JM Noble drive. A put-back of an Alas triple by Kevin Racal, and a 3-of-4 free throw line stretch by Jonathan Belorio gave the Knights some breathing room though, 71-65.
UE responded with eight straight while snagging the fourth fouls of Jun-Jun Alas and Belorio in the process, and went up by two, 73-71. With 1:37 left to play, Kevin Alas missed a floater, but got back his own miss and tied the game at 73-all. The Red Warriors countered with an alley-oop play from Noble to Biboy Enguio that put them up two. But once again, Kevin Alas answered back with a floater from the baseline.
Letran got a big break when rookie guard BJ Zosa threw the ball away on the succeeding possession. But Alas missed a shot at the rim. Break number two came when Noble lost the ball on the baseline, giving the Knights 3.1 seconds to win the game. Alas drove across the court and double-clutched a shot from just under the three-point line but missed, necessitating an extra five minutes of play.
With 2:04 left to play, and Letran up 78-76, Paul Zamar drew Franz Dysam’s last foul, denying Letran the services of its floor general, and knotted up the score at 78 each from the foul line. Lacking two of its starters, Letran couldn’t manage a single point after that, while Adrian Santos scored UE’s last five markers to clinch the win.
The victory evened UE’s card at 3-3, while Letran fell to 2-5 in Group B
Noble top-scored for the Warriors, contributing 15 points and seven boards. Zosa, the 16-year-old recruit from Cebu Eastern College, poured in 12, while Santos finished with eight points – six in the overtime period – and nine rebounds.
“I told them before the game, ‘sana wag lang tambakan,’” remarked UE head coach Jerry Codiñera, who actually played under Letran coach Louie Alas when he was in charge of the Mobiline team in the PBA.
“The challenge is for them to understand the game better. I don’t want to complicate the game,” he said, later adding that “they’re starting to believe a little [in themselves], na kaya nila to’ [without Paul Lee].”
A disappointed Louie Alas, meanwhile, said his team “needs to play defense for 40 minutes, not 20. The offense will follow if we play good defense.”
This was also the first game for UE without Ken Acibar on the bench. The 2010 Mythical Five selection had been demoted to team B due to disciplinary reasons.
Letran dominated the smaller UE line-up, pulling down 33 offensive rebounds to just the 12 of UE. But the Knights could only convert those second chances into 12 points, and all their misses dropped their field goal percentage to a measly 30 percent or 29-of-97. UE attempted just 54 shots, but made 23 of them, good for 43 percent.
All in all, Letran committed a whopping 39 fouls, giving UE 53 looks at the line, of which they hit 33. In comparison, the Knights were 15 of 18 from the stripe. W5
The scores:
UE 83 – Noble 15, Zosa 12, Zamar 11, Sumido 10, Santos 8, Javier 7, Sumang 7, Enguio 6, Montalvo 5, Tagarda 2, Duran 0, Razon 0, Flores 0
Letran 78 – K. Alas 27, Belorio 11, Dysam 9, Racal 9, Espiritu 7, Almazan 5, J. Alas 2, Lituania 0, Pantin 0, Gabawan 0, Mendoza 0, Cudal 0, Gabriel 0
Quarter scoring: 18-22, 37-41, 54-66, 75-75, 83-78
