Lady Warriors outlast Adamson in overtime

The University of the East trailed for majority of the game. But, in the end, they did just enough to snatch away the victory from hands of Adamson University as the Lady Warriors prevailed in overtime, 54-52 in the UAAP Season 77 Women’s Basketball tournament on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Blue Eagle Gym inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

Ruthlaine Tacula hit the game-tying three-pointer in the fourth period with 49 seconds remaining to force the extra session. Tacula also scored 3 of her team-high 13 points in overtime to give UE the win. The Lady Warriors picked up their second victory of the season in five games for a 2-3 record while the Lady Falcons fell to 2-3.

In another close contest, the University of Sto. Tomas squeaked past the University of the Philippines, 44-43. The Tigresses already held a 44-38 lead with three minutes remaining in the game but the Lady Maroons rallied with a 5-0 run. Antonio Wong had a chance to score the game-winning basket with four seconds to go, but her shot missed the mark, igniting the UST celebration.
UST improved to 2-3 while UP remained winless at 0-5.

League leaders, De La Salle University and National University both remained unbeaten in five games after putting down their respective foes. The Lady Archers defeated Ateneo de Manila University, 48-39 while the Lady Bulldogs crushed Far Eastern University, 56-40.
