Hoonga e.. twice ko na ren napansin na kapag Man-to-Man defense ipilit ilabas mga malalaki(imports) ng UE then nadadale sa cut or slash sa basket dapat Zone nalng after ng full court press. Tama observation mo, Chief!

Re: UAAP Season 77
From slamonlineph.com:
When the season began, the host team wowed many, as they combined the dreaded Pumaren press with a barrage of three-pointers. They put up gaudy numbers on both offense and defense, and looked like a Final Four-ready squad.
The only problem however was who they faced. Between playing the UP Fighting Maroons and the Adamson Falcons, typhoon Glenda forced organizers to reschedule their game against the UST Growling Tigers. As a result, there was a sense of “wait and see” around the Red Warriors. How would they perform against other Final Four hopefuls?
The answer so far is “not very well.”
Versus the DLSU Green Archers and, most recently, the FEU Tamaraws, UE was capable of hanging with their opponents up until the fourth quarter, when they melted down. They were able to force turnovers, but couldn’t convert the errors into points. Their three-point shooting turned cold, and the offense boiled down to “Sumang save us!” anew.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with going to your best player and expecting him to close games out. The problem though is that Sumang isn’t putting up the same monster numbers he did last season. While his assists have gone up, his shooting has gone down across the board, most especially his accuracy from deep. Toss in the fact that all that pressing probably doesn’t leave him with a lot of energy late (although UE has made it a point to decrease his minutes), and it’s no surprise that he’s struggling.
What are UE’s options? One thing they can try to do is get their three-pointer shooters, guys like Pedrito Gallanza and Dan Alberto, more involved late. Given how UE often builds their lead on the back of three-point shooting, it’s odd that they often go away from it late.
Another option, especially if they’re drawn into more half-court play on defense, is to give Moustapha Arafat’s minutes to Charles Mammie. UE has favored the former over the latter this season, but while Arafat is a better option on offense, thanks to his jumper, Mammie is an intimidating presence guarding the shaded area. Given how DLSU and FEU both shot above 60 percent inside the arc, in the last 10 minutes against UE, a little more Mammie might be just the thing they need.
UE’s schedule does not get any easier. Up next is Ateneo, and then their rescheduled game versus UST. Winning at least one of those is a must, barring a ridiculous second round turnaround, to be considered a threat for a quarterfinals spot.

Re: UAAP Season 77
it will definitely be a close game na naman..

Don't forget Pessumal. Sya pumatay sa atin sa Filoil. Streak shooter yun.
Kahit magzona yung 3 players natin sa paint and yung 2 guards mag man to man kay Ravena and Newsome.
Mukang kaya wag lang papadala sa mga foul-baiting moves and sidesteps ni Kiefer dun sya nakakakuha ng fouls at mga drop pass.

Re: UAAP Season 77
Olats nanaman
That was a classic game between ADMU and UE , Sucks that we got the short end of that one.
Another heartbreaking loss (we've had the worst luck at these things lol)
At 2-4 next game is must win for us against UST to have a chance at a final 4 berth. Let's hope the boys persevere and make a run in the 2nd round (ala-dlsu last yr).
We can still turn this around

UE coach Pumaren left to rue 45 free throws awarded to Ateneo
- and 25 for Ravena
From: Reuben Terrado
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
UNIVERSITY of the East coach Derrick Pumaren rued the number of free throws awarded to Ateneo in the
Red Warriors' 93-91 overtime loss to the Blue Eagles in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Sunday.
The first-year UE coach saw his team lose a 21-point lead in regulation, but insisted it was tough to overcome
the 45 free throws awarded to Ateneo by the referees against the 30 given to the Red Warriors. “I think it will
be hard to beat teams if we give them 45 free throws, right?
As a team, we only shot 30 free throws,” said Pumaren in a brief interview with the media moments after UE's
fourth successive loss. Pumaren singled out Ateneo hero Kiefer Ravena, who scored 38 points while making
19 of 25 attempts from the charity line. “Ravena shot 25 free throws. That’s the game right there,” said Pumaren.
When asked if he was, in effect, questioning the officiating of the game, Pumaren left it to the media to answer it.
“It’s up to you guys,” he said.

Re: UAAP Season 77
di ko alam kung mahina ba ang scouting reports natin.
ilang beses pinabayaan si pessumal sa 3points! nakailang 3points yun!
Aside from Ravena having 25 free-throw attempts, he was able to dished-out 9 assists! That's 18 points at the least! Those Pessumal three-pointers were most of the time initiated via a Ravena drop-pass. The team should tighten-up their perimeter defense the next time we face the Eagles. Be wary of those drop-passes, those patented Ateneo floppers, and those three-musketeers. And please, don't be fooled by Kiefer's slow-mo sidestep, it's his way to bait a foul or deliver a drop-pass.
At balita ko suspended daw yung mga refs nung game natin vs dlsu. May violation talaga yung inbound play ng dlsu.
damn it!

Re: UAAP Season 77
Mutual respect for star pair: Ravena says he and Sumang 'bring the best out of each other'
fr: Reuben Terrado
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
THEY figured in one of the most compelling shootouts seen in the UAAP in years, but judging from their faces they looked more like two good friends on a Sunday stroll in a mall. While fans inside the Mall of Asia Arena were too tense to even take a seat, there was Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena and University of the East rival Roi Sumang smiling at midcourt and exchanging words, seemingly oblivious to the pressure and the attention. But what a show they put on. Ravena, forced to dig deep into his vast offensive repertoire for an Ateneo team that isn't as gifted offensively as the Blue Eagles' previous champion teams, scored 38 points to go with six rebounds and nine assists while going 19-of-25 from the free-throw line. His 38 was a new career high, eclipsing the 29 he scored early in the tournament, and was the highest in the league in two years. Not to be outdone was Sumang, the flamboyant UE guard who likewise reset his own career high with 30 points against the Blue Eagles, including a highlight-reel step-back three-pointer from the deep left corner in the final moments of overtime that initially appeared to be the turning point of the match. But that was before Ravena answered with his own five-point cluster to put Ateneo back in the driver's seat, including his own three-pointer right on Sumang's face. Watching the two versatile scorers, it was almost painful to know that one of them had to lose. “Siguro kasi, ayoko lang magpatalo. Ganun din si Roi,” said Ravena, when asked about the shootout that ended with the Blue Eagles pulling off a 93-91 win in overtime.
When it was finally over, Ravena and Sumang once again met at midcourt, hugging it out and exchanging pleasantries out of mutual respect for each other's game. The two were actually teammates in the Sinag Pilipinas team that won the gold medal in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, and Ravena said he has come to know Sumang well enough to expect nothing less than a dogfight from UE on Sunday. “I have been with him in the SEA Games sa Sinag so ’yung attitude na ganun, ayaw lang namin magpatalo sa isa’t isa,” said Ravena. Sumang politely declined an interview request following the Red Warriors’ fourth straight loss, but Ravena said what the two share is "healthy competition" that serve to bring the best out of them. “It’s healthy competition to bring out the best in each other na ipapakita talaga namin. Good thing we came out with the win,” said the Eagles star. Ravena, though, said it was more than about the two of them, pointing out that teammates kept Ateneo afloat in the first half when he made just two of nine field-goal attempts. “Kinukuha ko lang ’yung confidence ko sa magandang pinapakita ng teammates ko," said Ravena, who nonetheless said he tried to find a way to contribute when his offense wasn't clicking. "As a leader, you don’t want to be a burden to your teammates na struggling ka. I can do a lot of things to contribute.”
