"San Beda made it a twin kill for the day as the Red Cubs survived a furious endgame rally by the San Sebastian Staglets, 84-80, to also remain undefeated in the Juniors division. Backup center Chris Javier stepped in for the foul-plagued Alfonso Gotladera to topscore for the Red Cubs with 19 points on top of nine rebounds and two assists."
"Chris Javier added 12 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks for the Red Cubs, who led from start to finish. Javier’s exploits earned him the Freego Best Player of the Game honor."
"Chris Javier topscored with 24 points for the Red Cubs, who registered a total 41 fastbreaks, 35 assists, and 22 steals."
"Finally heating up their diesel engine, San Beda went on a scoring binge behind Chris Javier's 6 points in the period and limited Perpetual's output to only 10."
"Two of the best Centers in High School basketball can be found on the same team, the San Beda College Red Cubs.
Fonso Gotladera
He was the starting center for the back-to-back Juniors NCAA Champions and their Team Captain. He averaged a double-double (11.9 PPG and 10.7 RPG) in his senior year. He's 6'4". He'll most probably be taller by the time he enters college.
Chris Javier
When Gotladera comes out of the game, this guy comes in. And, he's not just any guy. He's Chris Javier, another 6'4" center who plays for the same team! It's almost unfair to have these two on the same side. In the second half, Head Coach Brit Reroma fields them at the same time. They run high-low plays, Javier to Gotladera deep in the post or vice versa. Either way, it was a handful to the rest of the teams in the NCAA.
This Center tandem is one of the big reasons why the Red Cubs only lost one game (The other loss wasn't really a loss on the court but because of a technicality.) during the entire tournament.
San Beda Red Lions' Head Coach Frankie Lim said that he wants to see these two in his practices late this year."

Re: 2011 FIL -OIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Re: 2011 FIL -OIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
THE University of the East Red Warriors will probably never find someone who can replace outgoing superstar Paul Lee’s production. That said, three players emulated his clutch scoring to fuel UE to a big win.
Ken Acibar, Lucas Tagarda and rookie Willie Kamguia all hit big baskets down the stretch as UE stole an impending win from the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 79-78, last Friday, April 15 in the 2011 FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Premier Cup tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Acibar and former San Beda Red Cub Chris Javier combined for 33 points and 10 rebounds, while JM Noble added 12 points, six boards, and three blocked shots.
It was just enough to overcome JRU’s balanced scoring, with five players, including four starters, scoring in double-digits. Alex Almario contributed 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals before fouling out. John Villarias also had 14 markers, with six boards, three dimes and two swipes. Nate Matute poured in 11, and John Lopez and Raycon Kabigting had 10 each.
Although UE looked weak on paper without injured scoring machine Roi Sumang, the game featured 12 lead changes and three deadlocks. Down 14 early in the third, new coach Jerry Cordiñera abandoned his man-to-man defensive scheme and told his players to concentrate on a zone. The switch worked, with UE scoring 11 straight, closing the gap to 45-42 after a triple by BJ Zosa and ending the period down by just one, 56-55.
JRU didn’t seem fazed though, starting the fourth quarter with a 20-8 storm to create a 13-point bubble, 76-63.
When asked after the game what advice he gave his players in the face of the 13-point deficit, Codiñera said, “I will never quit. I was a player [before], so I had to show the rookies what to do.”
A Villarias foul put both teams in the penalty, and UE responded with five unanswered points. Off a timeout, Villarias was unable to respond, missing a triple. But Kamguia, a Cameroonian guard, would foul Jeckster Apinan, who in turn managed a split at the line to up the score to 77-68.
On the succeeding play, Almario was whistled for foul number five, robbing JRU of its floor general. Seemingly lost without his leadership, the Heavy Bombers would cough up the ball twice, allowing Acibar to hit back-to-back shots to cut the lead to four, 77-73.
With less than a minute to play, JRU’s Ralph Monserat missed his attempt, allowing Kamguia to hit a booming triple, 77-76 with less than a minute to go.
Down a point, UE would immediately foul, in hindsight a great decision, as Bomber guard Romnick Mendoza would halve the charities, giving the Warriors the chance to force overtime, or win the game.
With time winding down, Tagarda drove and muffed his attempt. Noble also couldn’t score on a tip-in. Still, Tagarda refused to give up, getting the ball one last time before twisting in the lane, scoring and completing an and-one.
Still, JRU had 7.8 seconds to make something happen, but Nate Matute had to double clutch a triple to avoid the defense, altering his aim and missing the shot in the process.
The aggressive Red Warriors got a huge lift from the foul line, where they converted 25 of 35 charities, compared to just an 8 of 18 clip for the Heavy Bombers. W5
The scores:
UE 79 – Acibar 22, Noble 12, Javier 11, Zamar 9, Zosa 7, Tagarda 7, Kamguia 5, Duran 3, Casajeros 2, Santos 1, Sumido 0, Villarias 0, Enguio 0, Razon 0
JRU 78 – Almario 14, Villarias 14, Matute 11, Lopez 10, Kabigting 10, Apinan 8, Monserat 6, Montemayor 4, Mendoza 1, Paniamogan 0, Dizon 0, Carampil 0, Dela Paz 0, Gaco 0

Re: 2011 FIL -OIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
FEU defeated UE 80-77.
It was a nice 4th quarter run by the Warriors, if not for turnovers we could have tied the ballgame, and maybe won the game.
My game observations:
1. Ken Acibar was in uniform but did not play. Baka iniingatan to avoid pre-season injuries.
2. Speaking of Jairold Flores, babad sya sa laro, maganda naman yung pinakita nya except for some "tirang takot" na pasok na sana nawala pa. More exposure pa..
3. Paul Zamar did the point-guard position almost whole of the second half. Mas maganda siguro kugn ipaubaya na natin kina Tagarda, Sumang, Zosa ang pg chores. Mas kailangan natin si Zamar as shooting guard.
4. Roi Sumang played but did not play the whole game. Pero wala syang point for this game. Higpit ng depensa sa kanya ng FEU.
5. Sumido is such a revelation in these preseason tournaments. With the same stroke, form and jersey numbe rof Allan Caidic, this guy's going to be a legit scoring option for the team. Kanina, binato nya na lang pumasok pa iyong isang buzzer-beater shot few feet away from the 3-point arc.
6. Montalvo, Montelibano and a new guy played few minutes.
7. We can expect the vast improvement of JM Noble and Erwin Duran. Dati kasi medyo mataba silang dalawa, ngayon medyo pumayat sila kaya medyo agile and mabilis na kumilos.
8. Casajeros definitely can score and a pesky defender. He will be a big help for the team.
9. Turnovers and poor perimeter defense killed us in this game. Ang dami nating turnovers that led to FEU's points. Ang daming 3s ng FEU particularly si Cawaling. Ang damign nyang 3-points.
Maybe to compensate for the lack of big man inside, pero ayun wala nagbabantay sa perimeter kaya ang daming 3points ng FEU.
11. Coach Jerry failed to capitalize the penalty situation of FEU during the last 2 minutes of the ballgame with UE just trailing by around 2-5 points. Sana puro drives na lang ang pinagawa nya para makabingwit ng foul and free-throws with the time not running.
12. This is somewhat interesting, whatever happened to Chris Javier? He was nowhere to be found. Sana naman di sya naglipat-bahay.
13. FEU's Mark Bringas is good replacement for Neil Cervantes. He made almost of FEU's 1st quarter points, taking advantage of our short line-up. FEU's beanpole import (Christian ?) has this short-temper. Eto magiging weakness nya, madaling mapikon. Pisikalin mo lang konti bumabawi na kaagad.
Overall, the team showed a better performance this time against a Finals-contender FEU team(pajinx peace!).

Re: 2011 FIL -OIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
angelfire999(pex):the prodigal son is back with the rest of the pride......the pride of lions, inside the lion's den:
This is definitely a bad news for UE. Oh well, sh*t happens. Life must still go on.
We watched the 1st quarter of the ADMU-NU game, and I must say Parks is a sight to behold. Kakatakot ang NU team for the years to come with Betayene, Eman and Mbe in its line-up, a 2nd UAAP title is not a far-fetched dream.
And one time nung nagffree-throw si Neypes, he was sporting an afro, an Atenean girl behind us taunted Neypes:
"Di bagay ang hair ah, bigyan ko sya ng pangpa-rebond, muka siyang walang funds eh..". Classic. I can't help but just to look behind me and see this fat obnoxious chinky-eyed girl. Oh well.

pero i guess ung sinabi ni angelfire sa pex na prodigal son is back is just "anticipation" of him going back. I hope tamang hinala palang yun at hindi pa fact...
Cocach Jerry is visibly shuffling his rotation against different teams, so nangangapa cya every game... grabe sana makapa na nya ang tamang line up...
About Zamar, cya nalang at ang nakakaalam ng majority of the plays eh, 5 years na cya sa UE right? dapat mailipat na nya ang playbook kay sumang ASAP.
The Acibar issue, I believe pine-pace ni coach ang games nya.

Nandyan pa di sina Acibar, Noble, Duran, at iba pang natirang players form the former coachign staff.
About Knuttel, totoo yun. Pinost ko na yan dati sa PEX. SA Fr. Martin's nangyari yun. Haha!

- Flores is around 6'3.
- I never said he will be the next Allan Caidic. I just compared his stroke, jersery number and shooting form with the Triggerman's.
-Lordy Casajeros is indeed the second coming of Ronald Tubid minus the height.
- Yes, the turnovers will eventually decrease by time, kitang kita naman na hindi pa sila ganung nagjjell. After 3-5 years gagaling na silang lahat as they come to age. Tapos magiging ok na ulit after 2-5 years.
-Yes, si Sentchou. Kapatid ni Arvie Bringas yung Mark Bringas if i'm not mistaken. Parehas na silang FEU as Arvie is completing his residency for FEU.
