Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
We have to be aware sa mga holdover players sa ibang team (e.g. Newsome, Cruz, Ferrer, Perkins etc).

Ngata-try out sila ngayon together with my friend, Alec Lopez. Mga kasabayan sila nina JP Meña nung 2012 season. Nakalaro ko na sila ang I can say he plays fast and powerful forward. Hopefully matanggap sila. Magagaling din maglaro ang mga ito.

Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
UE def. TIP earlier, 81-79.
UE led the whole 1st half only to be down by 13points to the TIP Engineers. TIP led almost half of the 4th quarter. Olivarez and Sumang played sparingly entering the 4th in the 5 minute mark.
It was a horrendous 3rd and 4th quarter by the Warriors. The TIP players were more energetic and more focus. We had a lot of turnovers.
Plus the homecourt advantage of the TIP team siguro nakaapekto din sa Warriors. Wala kami maupuan punung-puno. Dumadagundong yung TIP gym lalo na nung halos lahat ng tira ng TIP pumapasok.
Mammie still shows immaturity. Mainit pa din ang ulo. Once again, Sumang saves the day for UE as he scored the go-ahead basket, 81-79 with 43 seconds remaining.
Olivarez tied the ball-game (77-77) with a three-pointer in the last 2 minute mark of the 4th quarter. TIP scored to get the lead on a follow-up basket (77-79). But a play that led to a Mammie slamma-jamma once again tied the ballgame (79-79).
Sumang missed his charity, fortunately TIP missed an open lay-up. Sumang rebounded the ball only to be penalized for a 5-sec ball-hugging violation with 8 seconds remaining in the ensuing play.
TIP had the chance to win the game but missed on a potential game-winnign basket.
Casajeros was his old self lurking at the TIP huddle while the Engineers were mapping out their last play. Hehe.

Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
Your thoughts on the authenticity of this?
BTW, next game of UE is on Friday, Nov. 22. @TIP Gym Manila. Tip-off is at 1:30pm yata since ang next game is 3:30pm. They will face LPU Pirates which gave a hard-fought win sa Warriors, credits to their suffocating defense sa 2013 Fil-Oil Tournament.

Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
Da who ito? wala nang clue? hahaha .Kidding aside , first time ko ata makarinig sa player side na ngbabayad para makapasok sa isang collegiate team and team B at that, well our baste pipeline produced good results naman from the past namely raffy reyes and paul lee - sana magaling nga ito (I'm assuming the kid also played in baste high)cavalier18 wrote:How true ang nasagap kong balita nito lang na may pinasok na bata sa UE Team B na anak ng isang coach daw from Baste. UE downs Lyceum to gain spot in PCCL Sweet 16
From Reuben Terrado
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
ROI SUMANG delivered in the clutch to lift University of the East to a nail-biting 77-74 victory over Lyceum on Friday at the Technological Institute of the Philippines gym to advance to the Sweet 16 of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Luzon-Metro Manila qualifiers.
Sumang scored four of the Red Warriors’ last five points as UE overcame a three-point deficit in the final two minutes to clinch one of the two slots for Metro Manila in the Sweet 16 step-ladder.
UE will next face Centro Escolar University on Monday in Tanauan City, while another match features Luzon teams Lyceum-Subic and University of Batangas.
Also vying in the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifiers are UAAP teams University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University and National University, and NCAA squads Letran, San Sebastian and Perpetual Help.
The winner in the region will join UAAP champion La Salle, NCAA titlist San Beda, and Southwestern University in the Final Four.
A few players which included Charles Mammie arrived late for the game resulting in the Sierra Leonean import being benched until the final 1:45 of the game when the match was still tightly contested.
“I don’t want to lose face to the UE community,” said UE coach Boycie Zamar. “He has to follow the rules and I have to send a message.”
Sumang drove to the basket and drew a foul for a three-point play that tied the game at 74 before another drive gave UE the lead with 47 seconds to play.
Sumang, who finished with 19 points, preserved the efforts of Bong Gallanza, who had 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half that allowed UE to gain headway.
Before Sumang’s heroics for UE, Jeremiah Taladua capped off a 5-0 run for Lyceum to give a 74-71 lead to the Pirates, who were wildly cheered by the packed crowd at the TIP gym. A Lyceum win would have given the TIP Engineers the slot in the Sweet 16.
The scores:
UE (77) – Gallanza 20, Sumang 19, Olivares 11, Hernandez 6, Jumao-as 5, Alberto 5, Javier 3, Olayon 3, Flores 2, Casajeros 2, Mammie 1, Sumido 0.
Lyceum (74) – Baltazar 19, Mbomiko 18, Zamora 8, Ko 8, Ambohot 6, Taladua 5, Francisco 5, Lesmoras 4, Azores 2, Mendoza 2, Soliman 0.
Quarterscores: 12-11; 37-33; 54-50; 77-74.

Zamar singles out Mammie as 'toyo' attitude sours UE Warriors win in PCCL
From: Reuben Terrado
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
EVEN in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL), University of the East coach Boycie Zamar couldn’t hide his disappointment in his players particularly Charles Mammie, who showed up late for their Metro Manila qualifier game on Friday.
Zamar benched his Sierra Leonean center up until the final two minutes of the match with a UE win still not assured against Lyceum on Friday at the Technological Institute of the Philippines gym.
A still fuming Zamar later singled out Mammie after the Red Warriors defeated the Pirates, 77-74, to clinch a spot in the Sweet 16 of the PCCL.
“Everyday, I’m dealing with him,” said Zamar of Mammie.
“Mabuti ng Rufina Patis, huwag lang toyo,” added the riled Warriors coach, using a colloquial term for players who coaches feel are hard to deal with.
Not even chants of ‘Mammie! Mammie!’ from the packed UE support inside the TIP gym during several instances early in the game could sway Zamar into fielding the UE center, who only got a runout in the close endgame.
After the victory, Zamar still couldn’t get over his frustration with a few of his players for not following team rules prior to the game.
“Bumabalik na naman ‘yung ugali na late sa game. This is a character-building team more than anything else. You have to follow the rules,” Zamar said.
The Red Warriors, pre-tournament favorites who failed to reach the Final Four in the UAAP last season, still have a way to go if they want to go deeper in the PCCL.
UE will next face Centro Escolar University on Monday in the first round of the stepladder phase of the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifiers and will have to go through UAAP and NCAA Final Four teams after that.
For now though, Zamar is not even thinking of the national title, putting his focus on discipline and making his team better for the long haul.
“It’s all about discipline, defense, and determination. Pero undisciplined ‘yung team. I have to send a message,” said Zamar.
