Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
UE tie-up in the offing as Zamar named new coach of Cebuana Lhuillier
UNIVERSITY of the East fortified its future after Boycie Zamar was named as head coach of Cebuana Lhuillier in the PBA D-League.
Zamar confirmed to Spin.ph he will take over the coaching reigns of the Gems next conference from Beaujing Acot, who will concentrate full-time on his chores as team manager.
The UE mentor said a school tie-up with Cebuana is also in the offing, which he believes will be beneficial to the Warriors’ future.
“Siyempre delighted ka sa pangyayari kasi dahan-dahan at least ‘yung programa ng UE sports program,” Zamar said. “Blessing para sa amin ‘yan that you have a core of players na may pag-asa mag-D-League.”
Zamar is nothing new to Cebuana Lhuillier as he served as assistant coach to Aric Del Rosario when the firm backed the national men’s team campaign during the 2003 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
He was later elevated to head coach when the company also backed the national team bound for the 2005 SEA Games that failed to see action meet after the country was suspended by the world governing body Fiba.
Zamar's son and former UE Red Warrior Paul saw action for the Gems in the Foundation Cup last summer.
The Warriors coach is expected to bring some of his players to the D-League including UE’s leading scorer Roi Sumang. Zamar said he sees no problem in recruiting UE players for the Gems as some of the schools are doing the same.
“Wala naman akong nakikitang problema kasi developmental talaga. Malaking factor kung titignan mo from a basketball standpoint,” said Zamar.

UE, Diliman Prep come up with contrasting wins
ABS-CBNnews.com
MANILA, Philippines – The University of the East Warriors and the DCTI Senators (Diliman Preparatory School) scored contrasting wins in the 11th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup basketball tournament at the Arellano University gym in Manila over the weekend.
Mustapha Arafat canned in 13 points for the Warriors, who smothered the San Sebastian Stags, 98-52, as they joined the Senators in moving within striking distance of a semifinals slot.
The Warriors, who now have a 4-3 win-loss record in Group A, improved their chances after the Senators won over the Lyceum Philippines University Pirates, 76-75.
The Pirates now have a 6-1 win-loss record, and are still on track for the first semis berth in Group A.
Daniel Nudo’s layup with 12.5 seconds handed the Senators their third win in six games, and they could make it to the semis if they win their last two games.
In other matches, Joshua Alcober shot 16 points for the Trinity University of Stallions as they won over the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 88-71.
In the junior division, Dunray Geraldo made 25 points for the San Benildo Blazing Wolves, who outplayed Trinity, 92-82.
The Arellano University Braves got nine points from Owen Cunan in stopping La Salle-Zobel, 85-57.

Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
I'd aim for Tolentino, Thirdy, and Kobe. Though i'm no quite sure if Kobe is already graduating... I see Tolentino as a Jervy Cruz, and will dominate on the PF position alongside any of our African recruits.
Would it suffice kaya?

Re: 2013-2014 OFF-SEASON UPDATES
Coach Zamar declined the offer for head coaching job in Ginebra. I salute you, Coach!
Road clear for Chua return as Zamar admits he declined offer to coach Ginebra
From: Snow Badua
BOYCIE Zamar confirmed on Wednesday that he has turned down an offer to coach Barangay Ginebra, clearing the way for the return of Alfrancis Chua or the retention of Ato Agustin despite a dismal first season as coach of the PBA's most popular ballclub.
Zamar, head coach of University of the East and an assistant to Agustin at Ginebra, told Spin.ph he has talked to San Miguel Corp. big boss Ramon S. Ang, Ginebra governor Robert Non, and team manager Chua three weeks ago informing them of his decision not to accept the offer.
Reportedly the personal choice of Ang to coach Ginebra, Zamar said he has decided to honor his contract with UE for next season but was also honest enough to admit that he feels he is not ready for such a high-profile coaching job.
“Yes, it was offered to me on a silver platter, pero I have to protect my integrity and be honest with myself,” Zamar said. “Ayaw ko namang talikuran yung kontrata ko sa UE. Saka let’s put it this way - I still have to learn the ropes."
As early as July when Chua resigned over differences with former SMC sports director Noli Eala, Spin.ph has already reported that officials have already informed the team that Zamar had been picked to coach Ginebra next season while Agustin took over in an interim basis.
However, Zamar said he has decided to complete his "unfinished business" with the Warriors, who fell short of reaching the Final Four this season.
“Hindi naman sa hindi ko kinuha pero sinabi ko lang kila boss RSA (Ang), Boss Robert (Non) and Coach Al (Chua) na may obligasyon pa ako sa UE,” said Zamar. “May responsibilidad pa ako sa UE at gusto ko pang matuto.”
Zamar said Ang gave him a pat on the back after the talk.
“Natuwa siya kasi honest daw ko. Kung iba daw yun, susunggaban agad yung trabaho,” said the 47-year old Illonggo, who will now be reuinited with his son, Paul, at the UE-Cebuana Lhuillier team in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup starting on October 24.
“Ang sa akin naman, hindi ako pwedeng tumanggap ng tumanggap ng trabaho … kung may obligasyon pa ako sa isa,” he said with a smile.
Asked if he is not afraid to pass up on a golden opportunity to coach the most popular team in the country, Zamar gave an honest response.
“Sa akin, kung darating ulit 'yun, darating 'yun. Focus na lang muna ako sa unfinished business ko sa UE and hopefully make myself better,” he added.
Zamar's decision now clears the way for the return of Chua, who was convinced to move up to the team manager's position after he resigned as coach at the end of the Philippine Cup.
There has been a strong clamor among diehard fans for Chua's return, more so after the Gin Kings tumbled out at the quarterfinal stage of the Governors Cup in Agustin's first conference as coach.
However, it was Agustin who has been running the team since Ginebra returned to practice early this week.
“Ato has been running the team pa since nung nagbalik ensayo sila,” said Non. “Wala namang changes.”
